Sustainable livelihoods are essential for reducing poverty, strengthening resilience, and enabling individuals, families, and communities to build secure and productive futures. When women, young people, farmers, entrepreneurs, and vulnerable households have access to skills, financial services, markets, and economic opportunities, they are better able to improve their incomes, manage risks, and contribute to local economic development.

Across Ethiopia, many communities continue to face economic challenges, including limited employment opportunities, barriers to finance, low productivity, market constraints, climate-related shocks, and unequal access to economic resources. These challenges particularly affect women, youth, rural households, smallholder farmers, persons with disabilities, displaced populations, and other underserved groups.

At alignAfrica, we believe sustainable economic empowerment happens when people have the skills, resources, networks, and enabling environment needed to create and sustain livelihoods.

Since 2009, alignAfrica has partnered with communities, government institutions, financial service providers, private sector actors, cooperatives, training institutions, and development partners to strengthen livelihoods, promote entrepreneurship, expand financial inclusion, and create pathways toward economic resilience.

Rather than providing short-term support alone, we strengthen local economic systems, build individual and enterprise capacity, improve market connections, and support partnerships that enable households, businesses, and communities to achieve sustainable economic opportunities.
